AOC optical cable detailed introduction

2013-02-01

AOC optical cable (Active Optical Cable) is an active optical fiber communication cable that integrates optoelectronic conversion function and can directly convert electrical signals into optical signals for transmission without external optical transmitters and optical receivers. AOC optical cables are usually composed of the following main parts:

Optoelectronic conversion module: Located at both ends of AOC, each module contains at least one micro optical transmitter and one micro optical receiver. The optical transmitter is responsible for converting electrical signals into optical signals, while the optical receiver is responsible for converting the received optical signals back into electrical signals. These modules usually use advanced optoelectronic chip technology to achieve high-speed data transmission.

Fiber core: Connects two optoelectronic conversion modules to transmit optical signals. According to different transmission rate and distance requirements, AOC optical cables can use single-mode optical fiber or multi-mode optical fiber.

Cable housing: Protects the optical fiber core and optoelectronic conversion module to ensure stable operation of the cable under various environmental conditions. The housing material usually has good mechanical strength and environmental adaptability.

Connector: Used to connect AOC optical cables to other network devices, such as switches, routers, etc. Connector types may include LC, SC, MTP, etc., depending on the specific application scenario.

The advantages of AOC optical cables include:

High integration: Integrating the photoelectric conversion function into the cable simplifies system installation and configuration.

High transmission rate: Supports high-speed data transmission and meets the bandwidth requirements of modern networks.

Long transmission distance: Can be used for medium and short distance data transmission, reducing the complexity of wiring.

Easy to maintain: Due to the built-in photoelectric conversion module, the maintenance requirements of external equipment are reduced.

AOC optical cables are widely used in data center internal interconnection, enterprise networks, high-performance computing environments, and temporary networks that need to be deployed quickly. Due to its compact design and convenient installation, AOC optical cables are an ideal choice for high-speed network connections. (Source: Dongguan HX Fiber Technology Co., Ltd)
